Bumpwise is an iOS app built to help travelers know the bumps before they board. It delivers turbulence forecasts for your exact flight so you can plan with confidence, not guesswork. From flight selection to a fused turbulence score, the product turns complex aviation data into something clear, calm, and useful.
Challenge
Turbulence is one of the most common sources of flight anxiety, yet most consumer tools either oversimplify the problem or bury people in weather jargon. Competing apps typically plot one or two signals. Pilots and ATC trust a richer set of models, reports, and operational data. The challenge was to design and engineer a consumer product that could pull from twelve independent measurement layers in real time, fuse them into a single trustworthy score, and present the result without feeling technical, alarming, or opaque. The experience needed to feel precise enough for serious flyers and approachable enough for anyone boarding a plane.
Process
We started with the product question. What would make someone trust a turbulence forecast enough to change how they feel about a flight. That became the backbone of both the iOS app and the marketing site.
The interface is structured around clarity. Flight identity first. Forecast second. Context third. Circular gauges, route maps, and timeline views give travelers an immediate read without forcing them to interpret raw weather models. Motion stays quiet. Typography stays legible. The teal system signals confidence without spectacle.
Under the surface, the engine weights and reconciles twelve signals for every flight. Where NOAA's operational EDR forecast is available, Bumpwise defers to it as the primary signal, the same Eddy Dissipation Rate model air traffic control uses. Live PIREPs, advisories, physics, schedules, and airframe context fill the rest with capped trust so no single source can overwhelm the truth.
The web presence was designed as a continuation of the product. Clean. Technical without intimidation. Built to explain the fused score system, support App Store conversion, and grow with the product as new layers and markets come online.
Results
Bumpwise launched as a complete product system: an iOS app people can download, a forecasting engine grounded in operational aviation data, and a digital presence that communicates the value without overselling it. The result is a platform built for confidence. Travelers get flight-specific forecasts. The product stays quiet and clear.
